What is Paediatric Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is thought to stimulate the body’s natural response to heal and repair. Restoring physical, emotional and mental well being. Therefore, it is beneficial for a whole range of physical and emotional unbalances. Acupuncture works on restoring the whole body back to equilibrium.

Acupuncture for children is very different from a treatment for adults. There are a wide range of modalities that a paediatric acupuncturist can use instead of using needles. Vicki undertook further specialised training and education with the well renowned Paediatric Acupuncturist Rebecca Avern in the UK. Vicki is a member of The Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA).

What happens in a treatment?

The first consultation and treatment is about building rapport with the child and parents. Ensuring that the child feels comfortable and content for treatment. There are a lot of non-needle techniques that can be used alongside or in place of using acupuncture needles. So more often than not the first treatment will consist of one of these modalities. Here are some examples; Paediatric Tui Na - a form of massage using a variety of techniques which can often be taught to the parent/guardian to continue at home. Shonisin - A Japanese technique of using various small tools to stroke or tap the skin. Press seeds - Tiny seeds that are on a plaster that can be placed on specific acupuncture points to gently stimulate the point.

How much does it cost?

First treatment and consultation £25 for 45 minutes
Follow up appointments £20 for 30 minutes
Ideally your child will need a course of treatments initially then maintenance as and when required. Further information can be given upon your initial contact with Vicki.
